November marks the beginning of the holiday season. It’s a time filled with tradition, festivity, family and fun. While it’s true that gathering with family and friends is a blessing, it can often lead to opposing viewpoints, petty arguments or, worse yet, heated political debates. All too often, despite the best of intentions, the season reverberates with an underlying layer of stress.
But holiday get-togethers don’t necessarily need to fuel discord and anxiety. Bringing an attitude of gratitude and a sense of caring for the people that surround you can turn holiday chaos into family harmony. Come to the table free of past resentments and without an agenda in mind. Rid yourself of preconceived notions and making an effort to talk to, not at, one another. These simple things create the space for authentic connection to unfold and have the potential to inspire rich and meaningful conversations.
So, make this holiday a time to truly get to know your friends and family members. Try to see things through someone else’s eyes and open yourself up to the possibility of learning something new. All it takes is setting an intention to arrive at the celebration with a positive mental attitude and an open and accepting heart.
