Why teach secular Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a practice that involves focusing your awareness on the present moment, while acknowledging and accepting without judgment your feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. It allows you to see your experience just as it is and deal with difficult emotions and body sensations. With this awareness, you can gaina more compassionate understanding of the world. Over the past decade, mounting scientific research has demonstrated its benefits – fromfortifying the immune system to reducing stress and anxiety, and improving overall wellbeing.
Why teach Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)?
Social and emotional intelligence refers to core competencies that inspire people to lead with more awareness, understanding and compassion.Putting this knowledge into practice helps you better understand and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, form and maintain healthy relationships, and make solid decisions– all skills that are key for effective leadership. Together with a mindfulness practice, these and social-emotional competencies, this repertoire of skills help develop a way of being that strengthens personal and professional success.
Mindfulness Without Borders is led by an eclectic team of educators, practitioners and professionals from around the world dedicated to advancing knowledge and the practice of mindfulness and social and emotional learning in all walks of life.
